Pailin City Fundraiser

About Us

We are a volunteer group, whose main focus is to build upon and maintain the Robert J. Clemente Park and the Pailin Volleyball Sports Complex in the Lower Highlands neighborhood in Lowell, Massachusetts. Since the late ‘70s and until now, the park has become known as “Pailin Park” and is a landmark and symbol for the Cambodian community. As an anchor to the Cambodian Town district, our efforts are to seek to enhance the Cambodian heritage through sports, art, and architecture. “Pailin Park” is one of the most highly used parks in the City of Lowell. We work with the Commissioner of Park, patrons, and the residents around the neighborhood to collaborate on additional recreational use.

The group was initially founded when former City Council Vesna Nuon asked a group of community members to form a committee to help provide feedback to the City of Lowell during the last Master Plan initiative. Clemente Park Committee organically came together in 2010 and had the first Khmer New Year Celebration at “Pailin Park” in 2012. The group has since then come into its own and is a staple entity in the Cambodian community here in Lowell, Massachusetts particularly for the volleyball players and patrons of “Pailin Park.”

Why Clemente Park Committee? As a nod to the previous contribution of the park’s name sake, Roberto J. Clemente, it is a gesture of respect, inclusiveness, and the spirit of working together. The park has shifted and changed as it reflects the changes in demographic of the neighborhood.

We are a voluntary, non-paid independent community group made up of individuals from the community at large.
